When checking the gage height on the Uwharrie River (2nd graph on the above link):

• at 3 ft you will have a good paddle,  maybe a little muddy

• between 2.9-2.75 ft you will find some low areas where kayaks may drag or some portage may be needed

• at 2.5 ft or lower, levels for paddling will be very low, very little flow and rocks and low areas where dragging/portage will be frequent, the length of time to travel the river will be much longer than may be expected
